Early conversations at the GRLI

I've been at the GRLI less than 12 hours. In that time I've talked with four separate groups of people. Their home countries include Germany, Netherlands, Canada, USA, Ireland, UK and South Africa, their leadership contexts span business, academia, leader development, learning and education. Every conversation identified its own stories and themes. The themes as I hear them are not new but the level of concern for 'all of us' was palpable.

The theme of this year's gathering of the partners of the Globally Responsible Leadership Initiative is 'Common Good, Common Ground'. The theme centres on the idea and questions of belonging. What belongs to whom, what is the role of place, and in a global context what is the nature of planet and to what extent is it a contributor in the conversation rather than a topic of the conversation.

Achieving the seemingly impossible

To conclude our recent five-day programme in the Republic of Georgia we did an exercise where a group sits down without using chairs. You may have been part of this yourself. Forming a tight circle, each person sits on the knees of the person behind. Through collective effort, the seemingly impossible is achieved.
