Mary is a coach and mentor with experience in creativity, leadership, organisational change and cultural development.
Originally trained as a textile designer, in 1985 she joined the iconic Bettys & Taylors Group, a values-led, family-owned food and beverage company in Yorkshire, bringing her creative mind to a diverse range of leadership roles spanning product development, design, interior architecture, marketing, communications, and change management. When the company appointed the Oasis School of Human Relations as their partner for organisational development, she became the lead director for organisational, people and cultural development, responsible for developing and embedding whole person learning approaches across the whole business.
She has played a key role in leadership development including new approaches to distributed leadership, learning and development, and collaborative and peer-based working. As their Chair she was instrumental in founding and establishing the company’s pioneering Collaborative CEO leadership model and she has in-depth experience of developing and sustaining ways of working that allows business, Board and shareholders to build effective and aligned relationships, and enable people throughout the organisation to be self-managing and work together better.
Mary is on the board of the Globally Responsible Leadership Initiative and is a founding member of the GRLI ‘Guardian Group’ which advises and holds the Board to account for living its values in practice. She is the current Chair of the Oasis Foundation which supports those engaged in social change and social justice through applied whole person learning approaches.
Through this wealth of experience Mary has a deep understanding of the kind of issues and challenges that individuals face in their working relationships and when trying to achieve a better work-life balance. In her coaching practice she has a natural and empathetic coaching style and is able to build relationships of trust and openness with her clients. Deep listening is at the heart of her practice and she brings a quality of questioning, insight and intuition that facilitates change and learning. Mary believes whole heartedly in people’s ability to find their own solutions, make choices that are right for them and their context, and learn how to be more resilient and achieve their aims.
