An introduction to Transpersonal Development

There is an increasing interest in questions of meaning in many areas of life. There are strong debates taking place around us about the ‘God thing’ with Richard Dawkins and Christopher Hitchens mounting challenges to those of traditional faith. Many people don’t hold to any strong particular faith and yet… they have a real sense that there is more to this than another trip to IKEA.

Spiritual values and questions of meaning are intertwined. How we find meaning and what meaning we make informs how we make sense of life and the purpose for being here.  A transpersonal approach to those questions is one that works in an experiential rather than academic way. It provides a chance to explore with others some of the aspects of experience that ordinarily we get little opportunity to do. And I doing so test out our sense of the sacred, our experience of what potential we have to connect with ourselves at a deeper level.

The workshop is informed by the work of some of the contemporary transpersonal explorers particularly John Heron, Ken Wilber; Jorge Ferrer and Frances Vaughan.

We will look at some of the map of the transpersonal that such people offer as a way foaming sense of the kinds of experiences hat we may the go on to explore together

                We can explore:

                • What makes for a spiritual or transcendent experience?

                • How do you recognise them?

                • What brings them about?

                • What are some of the implications and effects upon everyday living?

                • How far do our beliefs shape our understanding rather than the experience itself?

                • How do we communicate our sense of what is possible

We can spend some off our time exploring different approaches drawn form contemporary methods such as:

                • Meditation

                • Sound

                • Movement

                • Creating sacred space

                • Exploring forms of connection

                • Opening to the sacred

                The Oasis approach

                • The work involves a willingness and openness to exploring your own experiences and practice.
                • The approach blends theory, experience and practice with an emphasis on application.
                • Participants are encouraged to explore and deepen their understanding and practice in a relaxed learning environment.
